i have a 4yr old nephew who i recently discovered has atleast 4 gray strands of gray hair on his head, what could this mean? is it possible for a toddler to be stressed out,im really worried about this.

Grey hair can be caused by stress, genetics or even in some cases, a deficiency of B12 or a thyroid imbalance.

Mention your concern to his mom and let her decide if it warrants a visit to his pediatrician.

This is nothing to be worried about. I can't see what a 4 year old would have to be stressed out about. Is his mother concerned?

it is part of the family gene somewhere....he is not stressed, at least not in a way that would cause him to go gray...

i don't think gray hair is the sole cause of stress. it is probably a genetic trait. there have been lots of young people who have gone gray at a young age, most recently that guy on American Idol a couple seasons ago. if you are truly concerned take him to see his dr.

It's not likely that it's stress. It may be genetic. At any rate, there are several different benign and serious causes and your nephew should be seen by a pediatrician or dermatologist.

Stressed out?! If he is stressed, gray hair has nothing to do with it; it's genetic. It's a myth that gray hair is caused by stress.

My son, who is now 13, has an invisible birth mark on his head. We never even knew it existed until he hit about 8 yrs old. Suddenly, I noticed my son had a huge swatch of grey hair! AUGH! My 8 yr old has grey hair! Next time he had a regular Dr. appointment I asked his doctor. Nothing out of the ordinary... just unpigmented hair. Now, if your nephew had a WHOLE head of grey hair... THEN you would be right to worry. It is very possible for a person of ANY age... newborn to senior citizen, to be stressed. However, I REALLY really don't think you need to worry about four strands of grey hair. You can always have his guardian have him checked at a Doctor for your comfort, but I'm sure he's just fine!
