Pageant hair african american?

my daughter is having a hair dillema. We are African American and do not put chemicals in our hair to keep it straight due to skin problems and hair loss.

However, we have never seen an African American girl with natural (afro) or braided hair win a pageant. We are considering thin braids to get similar look to what other girls get. Also, it is summer so flat ironing and straightening combs won't work. She is still a kid (pre-teen) and wants to be able to have fun without worrying about sweating out her hair.

So my question is, Has anyone see a girl with long braids, or other braided style win a pageant? Btw, this is a natural pageant.

If her hair is long enough, micro braids will work great. With micros, it's easy to pull the hair back, or leave down, so she can have a few different styles. Leave out beads or any other adornment, so it will afford you the most options when it comes to styling and matching to clothes. I have seen girls with braids place in natural pageants, but not in glitz.

If it is a natural pageant, I would think wearing your hair "naturally" would be a plus.

Use a wet set and slick it back with shea butter into a pony tail, twist the ends, wait until it dries then untwist, finger style and volia... cute, curly ponytail.

No. However, I'm not with the whole pagent thing.

But I can tell you that micro braids, and invisible braids give you great styling options. You can curl them, and treat them as you would your own hair.

My DD is in pageants and she is white/ black and puerto rican and I have a problem with her hair as well as it is short and unruly at times . I use a product called Mixed Chicks you can get it at www.mixedchicks.net I get all 3 the shampoo conditioner and lotion. I like them a lot.

When we go to pageants, I will wash her hair in the am and then I will use some lotion/ gel combo (mix it in the palm of your hand) and apply .

Then I will put it into a ponytail and use a harder bristled brush (not too hard as you don't want to hurt a tender head) . I also put hair pieces in it the kind that goes around her ponytail. And Viola she looks AWESOME and you can change the style as often as you want by simply getting new pieces .

This way I can keep her hair "virgin" and not mess with it more than I have too and we can work on it growing in between pageants. Good Luck e mail me if you have any more questions.

The pageants that she does are natural to minimal glitz
