Why are head lice more comon in younge kids then teenagers?

kids usually pick them up in school, but teenagers go to school too! and if anything i would imagine teenagers hair is also cleaner (mine is anyway)!

It is the opposite of why most people think. Head lice tend to gravitate towards cleaner heads. Also younger children tend to have closer interaction than do teenagers.

in order for head lice to move from one head to another the heads have to be touching, little ones are more likely to do this....although I would say to that in my experience they are more prevelent in girls...my daughter (4) and neices (6%26amp;7) get them a lot but the boys have never had them (9 %26amp;13).

Young children tend to put their heads close together when playing or working and their hair is not usually tied up. Teenagers tend to tie their hair up at school and don't tend to put their heads together as much. Teenagers do get lice, but when someone finds out, the others tend to keep away from the offender, where little children don't understand so will keep going near a child riddled with lice and keep getting them over and over again.

my friend used to be a (nit nurse)in a school and said head lice are found more on clean hair rather than dirty,think little ones get it more because they have there heads closer together in activities etc and the little blighters go from head to head :)

Younger children are more tactile, sit closer like in class sit on mat and have story time ,so they are in general much closer bunched together however teens sit far apart.

It is a height and size thing to be honest although rest assured teens do get lice they just do not say due to stigma still attatched and adults get them to can vouch for that as I got them off my girls at Christmas when they were small oh joy not!! lol

Contrary to belief they prefer clean hair, a backward compliment I know, and they dont jump. The reason younger kids get them more often is because they tend to interact in very close proximity to their friends whan playing, where as as we get older we stand back and converse more from a distance.
