ya know, its mothers like you that cause kids to have self esteem issues!! you are making that poor little girl think she is not pretty unless you damage her hair. NO, IT IS NOT okay to use a hair straightener on an 8 year old girl!! all it will do is cause her hair to break at the ends and give her split ends and just ruin her hair!! i wish someone told me that before i used one of those on my hair! i used to straighten my hair every day before school, and sometimes if it got frizzy durring the day from weather, id do it again when i got home. i did this for two years. well now it has been three years (im 22) since i used one of those things and my hair is STILL damaged!! there is no life to it, its flat on top and frizzy on the bottom, and i cant do anything nice with it! i wish my mother would have told me "you are so pretty just the way you are and i love you. you dont need to mess up your hair like this" please dont do this to your daughter.. she is 8 years old. after you read this, go give her a hug and tell her you think she is beautiful!! then throw away the straightener. and if her hair is wavy, just use a good conditioner and let it dry on its own. wavy hair is very pretty, my daughter (she's 2) has waivy hair and its beautiful!!

Both personally and professionally this is not something that I would consider doing. Here is why. If you alter your daughters hair texture you are going to have to contend with it growing back in. Mixing the two textures is going to be much more difficult to contend with than one. I would not expose such a young child to such harsh chemicals. I would suggest a cut that works with your child's texture hair and a shampoo and cond to help support the style and texture. I use professional products on my daughter because I find the children's brands to be overly scented and too heavy. (Most have a shampoo/ cond combo in one bottle.) I use a shampoo for normal and a spray in, leave-in detangler. I add long layers that stack up from the bottom to enhance her curls. She is only 2 and gets many compliments on her lovely hair!
