i mean im 13 and lots of girls always saying im mixed with this im mixed with that even though they look like a black person im mixed too but i always consider myself as a young black female and they always be saying if u got good hair u mixed which is not always true

Some people can't see the beauty in being black, because of the images they see everyday, but can't realize that they are perfect and everyone else is hatin' on them.

some people like to acknowledge everything that makes them who they are, i look mostly african american by my dark skin but i have irish and asian blood within me, i love being black but if i didnt have the asian and irish blood in me i wouldnt be who i am today.

Honey, we are ALL mixed with something. It's one of the hardest things to do is to keep a race "pure" when you're in love. This is why a lot of foreigners aren't welcomed in Europe.

yep! Alot of girls like to make up excuses of what their mixed with when their fully black. (really no black person is just black though, but they don't know what they have in them).

But like me I have tons of different ethnicities in me, some can tell %26amp; some can't;. You always end up with jealous black females who say that the person is lying and their not mixed, look a their hair. Its terrible. I'm going to rep what I have to the fullest no matter what the hating black females have to say! My last name is french (creole' %26amp; french wohoo!)

and theres is basic American so its like, obviously I am look at my last name as well.

The easiest answer, but not the one that people want to hear, is that a lot of black people have a self-hatred complex. They hate everything about them that makes them black.

-Their dark skin

-Their short, kinky hair

-Their lips, etc.

So if they don't have dark skin, short, kinky hair, or thick lips or whatever, they feel that they are closer to looking "not black" therefore, closer to looking "mainstream pretty" which some misguided souls mistake for "pretty pretty."

Blacks think that if they can claim that they are "mixed" (especially with Native American, that seems to be the most popular one), that somehow makes them more beautiful, more cultural, and overall better than the "average black person."

This isn't to say that all black people think of themselves as ugly but I'm bold enough to say that most do, otherwise they wouldn't spend so much money on getting their hair straightened, weaved, or purchasing those expensive lace front wigs like Beyonce and Tyra and Oprah wear.

The self-hatred complex needs to end. People need to stop falling for the "standard."

The easy answer: It's called SELF-HATRED.

The complex answer: Many people feel that if they claim to be bi-racial or multi-racial it is better than being what they are, an African-American.

Being African-American is being multi-racial for many of us. Most of us have african, european and native american ancestry, we just have the dominant genes (dark skin, kinky hair, features, etc.). For example, I am an African-American woman whose ancestry includes Jamaican, English, Native American and obvious African ancestry. But, our society just calls me "black" - which has no connection to a land, language or religion. Black is a color, not an ethnic group.

But I get why we use it = the 1970's black is beautiful movement. (I'll stop there, other wise this will be a dissertation).

Also, you are right, there are many African-Americans that have curly or straight hair and they aren't "mixed". Using the term "mixed" doesn't allow a person to identify with an ethnic group.

So, chalk it up as understanding that many of your peers are just denying a beautiful part of themselves. Stay strong, stay gorgeous and continue being proud of who you are!

A mixed kid who calls themself mixed is being honest, as well as being respectful to their white family and heritage. Just because you choose to silently deny and disrespect your white family and heritage does not mean they are somehow in the wrong. Based on your own words, they are the ones being very honest while you are the one denying your race. While others are calling out the ones you are referring to as having self-hatred, they some how are overlooking your own obvious self-hatred.....just because you call yourself black. Somehow denying blackness is to be frowned upon and denying whiteness means you have pride and self-acceptance. Go freakin figure....

God made no two people the same. Instead of focusing on how different people are (mixed, good hair, etc.) why not focus on how unique each and every person you meet is? You're only thirteen, have fun and know that yours and your friends' bodies and looks are going to change a million times over before you become grown people.
